From Drowning to Sailing: Navigating Life’s “Great Pivots”
There is a big difference between “not drowning” and “sailing.” For a decade, I just tried to keep my head above water. Recently, facing a layoff and a career change, I realized I’m no longer just trying not to drown; I’m learning to adjust my sails.
After escaping my marriage with four kids and no resources, I was caught in a storm. I didn’t have a map, just a compass pointing towards “Freedom.” Now, as an author, global speaker, and founding educator for a national certification, the storms still come, but my ship is stronger.
Setbacks, like losing a job or having a health flare-up, do not indicate failure. They are “Pivot Points.” They signal moments when the wind shifts, challenging you to see if you still believe in your destination.
The Actionable Steps:
- Adjust Your Sails: Stop fighting the wind (the things you can’t change) and start adjusting your sails (your daily habits and mindset).
- Look at Your Scars: Your scars aren’t proof of trauma; they show your healing. They reinforce your strength.
- Write the Next Chapter: If your life were a book (and mine literally is!), how would the hero deal with this plot twist?
